How to Fill Your Tennis Camp This Summer: 5 Proven Strategies That Work

fill your tennis campIf you are a tennis coach, club owner, or academy manager looking to run a packed summer camp, you are in the right place. Every year, I hear the same thing: "We have great coaches, a strong facility, and tons of energy... but the registrations are not where they should be."

Let us fix that.

Below are five proven strategies that will help you fill your tennis camp early, create buzz, and build long-term momentum for your program.

1. Define What Makes Your Camp Stand Out

Generic camp names and descriptions do not work anymore. You need to show why your camp is worth choosing over the one down the street.

Think about what makes your camp special. Is it your elite coaching staff? Tour-level training? Unique themed weeks, match play formats, or fitness-focused sessions? Parents are not just looking for drills. They want value, safety, and a camp that builds real skills and confidence.

Example: A summer junior program can be branded as Tour-Level Training on Clay. This is the type of camp that gets fully booked. Why? Because they told a clear, specific offering that stood out. Try the same based on your club capabilities.

2. Promote Earlier Than You Think

Many camps start pushing registration in May. The issue is by then, many parents have already made summer plans.

Start in February with early-bird promos. Use March and April to share testimonials, behind-the-scenes content, and returning camper stories. By May, your messaging should build urgency and include countdowns.

Pro Tip:

Offer a 10 percent early bird discount in February and fill multiple sessions ahead of schedule. Once spots begin filling, it will create a ripple effect of urgency and fear of missing out.

3. Market Like a Pro

Posting a flyer on the front desk is not enough.

Modern parents scroll Instagram, check Facebook, and skim emails between school pickups and drop-offs. To capture their attention, your marketing needs to meet them where they are.

Here is how:

  • Use Instagram Reels to highlight a day in the life at your camp
  • Use Facebook to emphasize structure, safety, and development
  • Email past families with early access and returning discounts
  • Use retargeting ads to follow up with families who visited your site but did not sign up

Tip for Old-School Marketers:

Flyers are still helpful when done right. We cover how to create effective tennis flyers in our ebook, Tennis Club Marketing 101, available on Amazon Kindle.

4. Turn Your Current Players Into Promoters

Word of mouth is still the strongest marketing tool you have. Encourage players and parents to help spread the word by:

  • Offering simple referral incentives (like discounts or free merch)
  • Posting quick testimonial videos
  • Hosting a "Bring a Friend Friday" during spring clinics

Simple Testimonial Strategy:

Ask a parent to film a short video answering 5 simple questions with their phone camera and send it to you:

  1. Why did you choose this camp?
  2. How did your child feel about coming each day?
  3. What improvements did you notice?
  4. Would you recommend this camp to others?

Post it on your site, email it to potential clients, and share it on social media channels. These testimonials build trust faster than any ad.

5. Create Urgency and Scarcity

People act when they feel they might miss out.

If you have limited spots, say so. If you are nearing capacity, let families know. Post reminders like "Only 3 spots left for Week 2" and "Camp is 80 percent full."

This tactic works especially well in emails and subject lines. A good subject line can double your email open rate!

You do not need a huge budget or marketing degree to get results. You just need a plan—and now you have one.

Your To-Do List:
